Edinburgh’s new Chief Exec to attend Thursday’s event

January 11, 2011

Just over a week into her new role at the helm of the City of Edinburgh Council, Chief Executive Sue Bruce is to be among the audience at Thursday’s Edinburgh Lecture by Deyan Sudjic.

The event, entitled Designing the State, will see the London Design Museum Director explore the relationship between a city’s design and architecture and its political system’s values.

Mrs Bruce took up her new post on 5 January, having previously been Chief Executive at Aberdeen City Council since 2008.

She said: “The Edinburgh Lectures have carved a formidable reputation over the years, with a huge range of influential speakers and thinkers delivering thought-provoking talks on all manner of topical subjects. This series’ Talking Cities theme is both fascinating and highly relevant and I am particularly looking forward to Deyan Sudjic’s lecture on Thursday. Edinburgh, with its World Heritage Site status and iconic skyline, has a built environment that is recognised and admired across the globe. It will be intriguing to explore how the city’s architectural aesthetic communicates its values, both to its citizens and to its millions of visitors.”

Deyan Sudjic’s Edinburgh Lecture is being presented by the Scottish Government, chaired by Fiona Hyslop MSP, Minister for Culture and External Affairs. National Galleries of Scotland’s Hawthornden Lecture Theatre, 6.30pm, Thursday 13 January 2011.

Tickets are available from the Usher Hall in person, by phone on 0131 228 1155 or online.
